This Cut SNL Sketch Features ’80s Hairdos, Power Suits, So Much Workplace Sexism

Workplace Warriors, the fake 1983 TV show in this cut-for-time SNL sketch, has an absurd premise: Two mild-mannered office workers on an Egyptian vacation find a magical potion (made from Cleopatra’s tears, no less) that turns them into assertive corporate achievers. As weird as that sounds, it’s actually pretty fun to watch, with Miley Cyrus and Aidy Bryant taking revenge on their cigar-puffing, misogynist bosses using superpowers that include extreme shoulder pads, big hair, and chutzpah, in a perfect parody of the iconic 1980s businesswoman. Because of their victory, working women can now celebrate total equality. Thanks, Workplace Warriors!

The sketch starts out a little slow, and there are a few sound issues, both reasons it might have ended up on the chopping block. Another explanation might be a struggle with a prop door—when Cyrus and Bryant call for backup, Kate McKinnon (as Networking Nadine) seems to have some trouble coming to their aid. It’s definitely a goof, but it’s also one of the funniest moments, as it leaves Leslie Jones unable to deliver her line with a straight face.
