The Honest Trailer for Zootopia Reminds Us Not to Think Too Hard About Its Racial Allegory

We finally have an Honest Trailer for Zootopia, the animated hit from Disney that made more than a billion dollars at the box office—or as the trailer puts it, the one that “finally got people to stop talking about Frozen.” It’s a lighthearted tale of lovable animals acting like people, except that it also uses those cuddly creatures to attempt an allegory for contemporary racial politics, complete with issues of tokenism, discrimination, and affirmative action. And the more you think about it, the more that using these different species of animals to construct an allegory about race gets, well, a little hairy.

Speaking of which, the trailer also calls out all the lazy, forced animal puns, and shares the disturbing realization that none of the characters have genitals—or, well, much of anything down there. How do they go to the bathroom?
