David Carr, the respected and beloved New York Times columnist who died last year at the age of 58, will be coming to the small screen: AMC and Sony have announced that they are developing his unsparing, candid memoir, The Night of the Gun, as a miniseries, with Bob Odenkirk starring as Carr himself.

The Night of the Gun was a best-seller when it was released in 2008, and it brought Carr’s astounding life to the forefront—in it, he unabashedly chronicled his yearslong cocaine addiction while researching and interviewing key people from his past in an attempt to put all of the pieces of his past together. It’s incredibly dark but also uplifting—a role that should suit the Better Call Saul star quite well. He’ll be executive-producing alongside The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, who will also write.
