It is so rare for a trailer to offer anything at all in terms of pacing or narrative—even when it spells out the entire plot—that the trailer for Eran Creevy’s upcoming film Collide is a genuine delight. It begins with a scene from what looks like a Love Story–style sick flick starring Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones, then ramps up the crazy.
It’s nearly a minute in before Ben Kingsley pops up in sunglasses, a gold chain, and no shirt, and things only get weirder from there. Kingsley’s performance looks like it’ll be somewhere between his menace in Sexy Beast and his incompetence in Iron Man 3, so sign us right up for that. The icing on the cake is Anthony Hopkins, also in full greatest-hits mode, doing his best Hannibal Lecter in an amazing powder blue suit. By the time Nicholas Hoult is flipping cars Mad Max: Fury Road–style, the whole affair has enough loony confidence to pull off a “leave the girl out of it” line. Collide might not win any awards, but maybe the trailer should.
