One of the best things about Veep has always been Timothy Simons’ phenomenally unlikable performance as universally loathed political aide Jonah Ryan. (The congressional testimony about Jonah’s nicknames, from “the Pointless Giant” to “the Cloud Botherer,” is an all-time highlight.) This season, Jonah’s running for Congress—the same way Willie Stark ran for governor—and his campaign has a website.
As these things go, it’s remarkably well-thought-out, including a campaign poster, a “Jonah through the years” photo gallery, links to the New Hampshire Fish and Wildlife Commission and the Maple Producers association, and best of all, television ads. The ads are minor masterpieces, from the awkward cut concealing Jonah’s inability to split wood to the ax-murderer closing shot. Check out the first one above.
