Fox is remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show, for better or worse, and now we have our first real peek at the TV movie adaptation of the cult classic. In a new teaser, Laverne Cox stars as mad scientist/alien/transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter, while Ryan McCartan and Victoria Justice are the objects of her seduction, the luckless Brad and Janet. We also get a few glimpses of Penny Dreadful’s Reeve Carney as Riff Raff and Broadway actress Annaleigh Ashford in the background as Columbia.
The teaser doesn’t give much away, but Cox’s Frank-N-Furter has a different look than Curry’s (although she does seem to be taking a stab at his English accent), and the whole production will almost certainly be more restrained than the original film. The adaptation will also star Staz Nair as the doctor’s golden-shorted creation Rocky, Christina Milian as Magenta, and Adam Lambert as Eddie (the role played by Meatloaf in the 1975 film). Even Tim Curry, who originated the role of Frank-N-Furter in the 1973 stage production, is getting in on the action—as the criminologist narrator.
Appropriately, Rocky Horror will air on Fox on Halloween.
