Watch Jason Sudeikis Battle His Way Across Orange County in the Son of Zorn Trailer

Sure, Game of Thrones is fun, but for real fantasy adventure, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has always been the gold standard. That’s the logic behind Fox’s Son of Zorn, in which Jason Sudeikis plays a 1980s animated swordsman trying to reconcile with his wife and son in Orange County. The show is from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the guys behind The Lego Movie (and the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars film), and unlike the recent run on time-travel shows, when it comes to Masters of the Universe, this is the only game in town.

But the trailer gives the impression of a great premise that isn’t coming together yet. Though the shock of Zorn dispatching the flying bird he got for his son (and Tim Meadows hosing animated blood off the driveway) is excellent, some of the other jokes fall pretty flat. And what’s He-Man with no Skeletor? Still, Lord and Miller have succeeded against impossible odds in the past (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie), and the cast has some reliably hilarious talent, from Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Cheryl Hines to Always Sunny’s Artemis Pebdani. It remains to be seen if Son of Zorn will be more Battle Cat or Cringer.
