The Mr. Robot Season 2 Trailer Gives Us a New Glimpse of the Chaos Inside Elliot’s Head

The season finale of Mr. Robot was less a finale than it was a “transitional” episode, as Vulture’s Matthew Giles noted last year—so many loose ends remained as the show’s creator, Sam Esmail, prepped viewers for an ostensibly explosive Season 2. Elliott’s unsure of what exactly transpired in the previous three days gone by that he can hardly recall. Tyrell, the former senior vice president of technology at E Corp, has gone missing in the wake of fsociety’s successful hack. A mysterious, shadowed figure appears at Elliott’s door.

The Season 2 trailer hints at what’s to come. Despite having thought they covered their tracks last season, President Obama is seen giving a press conference implicating fsociety and Tyrell in the hacks; elsewhere, Elliott’s sister Darlene is concerned with continuing the work they started, to show their ecstatic supporters that they “haven’t given up—that we meant what we said about changing the world.” Mr. Robot, aka Elliot’s deceased father in hallucination mode, is still a strong presence, guiding (or goading?) Elliot and helping him piece together the cloudy events of those three days. And new characters abound, including rapper Joey Badass, who will reportedly play a friend of Elliot’s.

“I’m sorry, my dear, this is all in your head,” says Phillip Price, CEO of E Corp. As Season 2 unfolds, it seems definite that we’ll venture even deeper into Elliot’s head—and things will get even more chaotic than ever before.
