Once again Kate McKinnon was the highlight of a relatively mediocre Saturday Night Live, with a Weekend Update appearance as Olya Povlastky, a woman from a small village in Russia. The topic of the day was Trump’s candidacy, and as one of Putin’s subjects she took an inordinate amount of glee at the America’s homegrown autocrat, bidding us all, “Welcome to the suck!”
No one throws away a line like McKinnon, and her “This is like candy in my mouth to me … I’m assuming,” was perfectly delivered. The highlight, though, is the wobble in her voice when Colin Jost tells her, “God bless you,” after she sneezes. “He never has, and he never will,” she responds, entirely believably.
