Alison Brie Is an American Heiress in the Trailer for Downton Abbey Creator Julian Fellowes’ New Show

If you’re still trying to fill the void that Downton Abbey has left behind, you’re in luck—Amazon has acquired Doctor Thorne, an adaptation of the novel by Anthony Trollope from Downton creator Julian Fellowes. The three-part (what else) British costume drama stars Tom Hollander as the eponymous Dr. Thorne, whose village life is thrown into chaos when his penniless niece falls for a young squire whose estate is in peril. Alison Brie is an American heiress whose fortune might be the key to saving the land, if a marriage can be arranged, while Ian McShane is Thorne’s alcoholic patient Sir Roger Scatcherd, who has secrets of his own.

If the trailer is any indicator, the series has all the classic Downton Abbey elements: estates in need of saving, forbidden romance, a wisecracking American, and, of course, elaborate period costumes. Episodes will be available on Amazon starting May 20.
