Samantha Bee Slams Harriet Tubman Haters, Compares Andrew Jackson to “Trump with Better Hair”

On Monday night’s Full Frontal, Samantha Bee took on the backlash that has emerged in response to Harriet Tubman becoming the new face of the $20 bill, replacing Andrew Jackson. The move is a reasonable decision: The seventh American president did perpetrate a genocide, after all, while Tubman is today pretty widely acknowledged as an American hero. Then, it turned out that Jackson actually wasn’t even being ousted completely—he was just being booted to the back of the bill. Everybody wins, right? Not so fast, Bee points out, calling out the Republicans and Fox News reporters who still aren’t happy about the change.

In the clip, Bee dismantles, one by one, the arguments of “bigots” and “assholes” who oppose putting a black woman on the bill and explains why relegating Tubman to another denomination of currency just won’t cut it—and is a really, really terrible idea. She also has some strong words for Jackson defenders: “He was not a Founding Father. He was a genocidal prick who forced the relocation of nonwhites and fomented populist rebellion—kind of like a Trump with better hair.”
