Audiences will have the opportunity to see Prince on the big screen this week, Varietyreports. AMC Theatres and Carmike Cinemas will be showing Purple Rain in 36 states starting Saturday night and running until Thursday, April 28. The 1984 film, Prince’s first, earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. Both theater chains are maintaining their own lists of theaters booking the film—Carmike’s is here and AMC’s is here—but we’ve combined them, sorted by state, after the jump.
If you need help deciding whether to see it, here’s the original Siskel and Ebert review—two thumbs up—in which Siskel says it “ought to be studied for the way it uses music dramatically” and Ebert calls it “the best rock film since Pink Floyd The Wall.” If you’re in Los Angeles, you can also see Purple Rain on 35 mm at the New Beverly Cinema in a double feature with Jailhouse Rock on May 15 or 16.
