The 2016 Pulitzer Prize winners were announced on Monday, and in the Drama category, at least, the winner was no surprise: Lin-Manuel Miranda took home the prize for Hamilton. Elmo, like most of us, would agree that this was very much deserved:

Elsewhere, Joby Warrick won in the General Non-Fiction category for Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS (National Book Award winner Ta-Nehisi Coates was a finalist) and Viet Thanh Nguyen won for Fiction for The Sympathizer.

Emily Nussbaum, television critic for the New Yorker, was also honored, and editor David Remnick’s cover letter for her nomination is a particularly lovely ode to what makes her work so singular. “In her ambition and scholarly depth, Nussbaum has brought a new rigor to TV criticism,” he writes. “But it’s her wit and her ability to convey why you should love a show as much as she does that makes her a joy to read.”
