Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Kate McKinnon Are Match.com Aliens in This Gloriously Weird Sketch

The 11:50 slot on Saturday Night Live has always been the home of the strange, where sketches no one is sure are going to be any good at all end up. More often than not, things are buried there for good reason, but every now and then, the slot machine comes up triple sevens. That’s what happened Saturday night, when Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Kate McKinnon showed up at a Match.com mixer as aliens in completely unconvincing human disguises in search of “adult males for dating.”

It’s the details that make it: the ruffled dresses, the black contacts, the fright wigs, and most of all, the voices. Political satire and topical comedy are all well and good, but they’re not exactly in short supply, especially on SNL. So speaking as one of the (perhaps small) group who totally lost it during this sketch, here’s to the times the show takes a risk on something bizarre, inexplicable, and even alarming. Our kind is dying.
