The New Fantastic Beasts Trailer Is Our Best Look Yet at Its Hero. (He Looks a Lot Like Harry Potter.)

The first teaser trailer for J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was magical, if not very telling: We learned that the Harry Potter spinoff follows what happens when Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), who studies the titular fantastic beasts for a living, loses a few critters while on a trip to America. The movie’s second trailer, which premiered on Sunday night, gives us a bit more detail about Scamander, as well as some of his friends and foes.

Scamander seems to have a lot in common with Harry Potter, in that both have a few detractors at Hogwarts, have a penchant for stirring up trouble, and yet still enjoy the support and admiration of Albus Dumbledore. (In this case, of course, the much younger Dumbledore must still be growing out his beard.) The trailer also gives us another peek at Colin Farrell as Percival Graves, an Auror who appears to be chasing Scamander down. One thing that the trailer hardly shows us—instead choosing to exercise some admirable restraint: those fantastic beasts, who appear only in brief glimpses. To see more of Rowling’s creatures come to life, we’ll have to wait until the movie arrives in theaters on Nov. 18.
