Artists Pay Tribute to Phife Dawg in the Video for His New Single, “Nutshell”

Since news broke in March of the death of A Tribe Called Quest founding member Phife Dawg, there has been no shortage of tributes, both conventional and unconventional. On Tuesday, fans got a treat: A new song and accompanying video, “Nutshell,” premiered. It was meant to be the first single on a solo album he was working on at the time of his death, Give Thanks.

The video features video of Phife Dawg himself, along with tributes from several fellow artists, including De La Soul’s Posdnuos and fellow Tribe groupmate Jarobi White, describing what he meant to them “in a nutshell.” The song features a beat from the legendary J Dilla, who also died tragically young in 2006, and is available for purchase on iTunes. Half of the proceeds from the single will go to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation.
