Hell has finally frozen over: On Friday night, Guns N’ Roses played its first reunion gig at West Hollywood’s the Troubadour, making good on the band’s surprising announcement that the “original” GNR lineup (minus guitarist Izzy Stradlin and drummer Steven Adler) would tour together in 2016. Fan videos show the band powering through hits from “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City” to their Bob Dylan cover, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.

The core trio of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan hadn’t shared a stage since 1993. On this night, however, the same wild chemistry that fueled classic albums such as Appetite for Destruction, Use Your Illusion I, and Use Your Illusion II seemingly overcame any rust. It was a reunion that many had hoped for but few had actually expected. In the end, all it took was just a little patience.
