Mark Hamill Returns as the Joker in the Teaser for Batman Adaptation The Killing Joke

Few sounds are as simultaneously delightful and terrifying as Mark Hamill’s cackle in the role of the Joker. Hamill has voiced the iconic Batman villain’s animated likeness many times—including in Batman: The Animated Series, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and Batman Beyond. Now, Hamill has reunited with Animated Series alum Kevin Conroy, who has a similarly long track record voicing Batman, for a new adaptation of The Killing Joke, Alan Moore’s one-shot comic and one of the most acclaimed and influential Batman stories of all time. (It influenced, among other things, another of the most iconic portrayals of the Joker: Heath Ledger’s in The Dark Knight.)

The teaser is, like most teasers, short and sweet, but it gives us the gist of what we should expect: The Joker has been in custody at Arkham for two years, is as unhinged as ever, and is now running free. And of course, the teaser gives us what we all await whenever Hamill brings his voice to the Joker: a good, long listen to Hamill’s deranged laughter. The long-awaited adaptation is due out this summer.
