The New Ylvis Explores a Language Even More Mysterious Than “What the Fox Says”

The Norwegian duo Ylvis is nothing if not an explorer of life’s greatest mysteries. In 2013, the the two brothers finally broke through in the U.S. when they took on the timeless question “What Does the Fox Say?,” but they’ve also solved the riddle of why a-cappella groups say “Boodelooap” and raised their hands to the heavens to cry “Who the f–k builds a Stonehenge?” That last song remains one of their greatest and is a prime example of how, on this side of the pond, this duo still hasn’t gotten its due.

But now the Ylvisåker brothers have taken on the greatest mystery of all: love. The less I spoil about this one the better, but suffice to say that Bård (the blond one) sings a duet with some very special guests, while Vegard (or as I like to call him, Norwegian Paul Rudd) gets the strangest cameo of all. And from the video’s surprisingly high production value (those CG effects!) to the typically anthemic songwriting and irresistible hooks, it’s another miniature classic that makes you realize that this Nordic duo is the rightful successor to the Lonely Island and Flight of the Conchords. After you watch it, you might be looking for this translation, but the language of Ylvis transcends all boundaries.
