The Many, Many Film References in The Hateful Eight, Side-by-Side

A favorite pastime for any Quentin Tarantino fan is picking apart all of the cinematic references in his movies, from the works of his idols and from his own now-legendary filmography. As is always the case, he’s talked a lot about his inspirations for his latest film, The Hateful Eight—name-checking And Then There Were None and Bonanza—and since its release, viewers have likewise speculated on some fascinating connections.

Now a video short edited by filmmaker Ollie Paxton spotlights these comparisons by featuring a ton of movie clips side-by-side with moments from The Hateful Eight. There are some truly spot-on examples here involving John Carpenter’s The Thing, Lawrence of Arabia, and others—a reminder (as if we needed another one) that Tarantino is a master student of film.
