It’s Official: Disney Is Making a Fifth Indiana Jones Movie, Starring Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones
Here’s hoping this one’s better than 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Publicity still

Steven Spielberg is a man of his word: Last December he assured us that no one would play Indiana Jones but Harrison Ford—but hinted that another movie could still be on the way. Today, Walt Disney Studios announced that a new Indy movie will hit theaters July 19, 2019—helmed by Steven Spielberg, of course, with Ford reprising one of his most his iconic roles.

Spielberg directed all four previous Indiana Jones movies, which together have raked in nearly $2 billion at the global box office, according to Disney’s press release. And following Ford’s recent return to another beloved role in another pretty well-known franchise that also killed it at the box office, it’s no mystery why Disney would want to revive this adventure series. But with Ford clocking in at age 73, it’s hard not to wonder whether this will be the film that sends him riding off into the sunset for one final time—and if so, who could possibly pick up the hat and bullwhip next.
