DreamWorks has made a movie based on those little Troll dolls with the chubby bellies and crazy hair, aptly titled Trolls, which has a Justin Timberlake-helmed soundtrack, and also stars Anna Kendrick, James Corden, Gwen Stefani, Russell Brand, and Kunal Nayyar (Raj from The Big Bang Theory). By way of plot, all anyone seems to know is that Princess Poppy (Kendrick) and Branch (Timberlake) will go on an adventurous journey together, with “no shortage of musical mash-ups along the way.” So kind of like The Smurfs, but with a dash of Pitch Perfect? The first teaser is here, and it is as bizarre as one would expect.
In the teaser, we find the trolls mid-dance sesh, whipping and nae nae-ing as trolls do. “These creatures aren’t just delightful,” the trailer promises as a giant purple, clawed hand plucks one of them up by the hair. “They’re delicious.” As the adorable little troll presumably gets eaten, one has to wonder: Is this a metaphor for what the movie will do to our childhoods? The movie is due out Nov. 4.
