Doomsday Is Here in the Trailer for J.J. Abrams-Produced 10 Cloverfield Lane

Thursday night, the audience for a screening of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours were treated to a bombshell of a surprise: the trailer for J.J. Abrams’ and Bad Robot’s 10 Cloverfield Lane. The Dan Trachtenberg-directed film, which had also been referred to as “Valencia” and “The Cellar,” is due out March 11, and unsurprisingly has gotten Cloverfield fans hopeful that they just got the sequel they’ve been waiting for.

J.J. Abrams told Collider in a statement that the movie will be a “blood relative of Cloverfield.” At least in the trailer, this film abandons the original’s found footage conceit, which allows for a few polished touches, like some very clever music editing to create tension. Additionally, this Cloverfield—at least in the beginning—takes place in some kind of cellar, as John Goodman plays a survivalist who’s bunkered down in hiding from an unseen threat with two doomsday companions, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher, Jr. It seems Goodman’s character is holding Winstead’s character against her will, and as she makes a break for the door to the outside, Goodman screams, “You’re going to get us all killed!” By what is unclear.
