After his third stint hosting the Golden Globes in 2012, Ricky Gervais said he’d never return to the show again. Given that Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr. openly revolted against his nasty jokes live on stage, few were inclined to disagree.

Fast forward to 2016, when Gervais will once again take the stage at the industry’s most ridiculed awards show, proving that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association cares more about securing millennial viewers than its own dignity. Ahead of Sunday night’s show, we revisited all of Gervais’ meanest jokes from his stint on the telecast. In the video above, watch the gags that may have kept him off the stage until this year.
