In recent years, some of our most prominent directors have shot on 70 mm, the ultra-wide, high-resolution, and increasingly rare film stock used to make epics like Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, in fact, is the widest 70 mm release in 20 years, and to mark the occasion we have this great, extremely geeky conversation between him and Paul Thomas Anderson, whose 2012 film, The Master, was also shot on the format.
The discussion can get a bit digressive, but if you’re a fan of either director there are few better ways to spend 40 minutes than to hear them gush about movies in Tarantino’s home theater.
