Merry Christmas! We here at Brow Beat like to spend the day watching this lovely one-minute animation on a loop. It aired on CBS in 1966, and was made by the legendary animator and cartoonist R.O. Blechman. Blechman, famous for his New Yorker covers and for the proto-Squigglevision 1983 PBS Stravinsky adaptation The Soldier's Tale, is 85; his son, the designer Nicholas Blechman, is now creative director for the magazine that featured his dad so many times. And to all a good night!

Dan Kois edits and writes for Slate’s culture department. He is writing a book called How to Be a Family and co-writing, with Isaac Butler, an oral history of Angels in America.
