Update, Dec. 23: The Beatles have officially confirmed on their website that their catalog will be streaming across various platforms on Christmas Eve starting at 12:01 a.m. local time.
It’s been a long time coming, but Billboard reports that the Beatles, long-time bane of the streaming world’s existence, will finally upload their catalog to services like Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music.
There are conflicting reports as to when exactly the catalog will be made available, but there’s “strong indication” that “Hey Jude” will stream on Christmas Eve, with the band’s entire discography to follow soon after. The news marks the culmination of an almost year-long negotiating process: Talks with Universal Music Group, who owns the catalog, began in January, and an agreement was reportedly struck in September.
The Beatles have a penchant for playing catch-up with the music industry; the band waited 22 years before remastering their music, and six years before agreeing to sell their albums in the iTunes Store. But Justin Bieber’s streaming record is now in sight—keep your fingers crossed for a White Album Christmas.
