Surprise! Daniel Craig has a role in The Force Awakens. In a move that probably brought the world as close to a Star Wars/James Bond crossover as it’s ever going to get, Craig apparently picked up a small role in J.J. Abrams’ latest blockbuster—specifically a very brief but very funny cameo as a Stormtrooper.
From Screen Rant:
Way back in May, at the London premiere for Man Up, Simon Pegg let it slip that Daniel Craig was playing a Stormtrooper in Star Wars 7 before following up with “I shouldn’t have said that.” It wasn’t too much of a surprise at the time given the rumors leading up to this moment that Craig had asked for a small part. It was relatively easy to make happen too since Star Wars 7 was shooting at London’s Pinewood Studios, where Spectre was being made as well.
Craig vehemently denied it to Entertainment Weekly in July. “Why would I ever bother doing something like that?” he said. “F—ing hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie.” If that strikes you as a serious case of “the actor doth protest too much,” you’re right. Multiple unnamed sources now tell EW that Craig did have a small role—one of the movie’s best, in fact. So if you’re seeing the film this weekend, pay attention: Craig plays a certain Stormtrooper who shares a very funny exchange with Daisy Ridley’s Rey—one that probably gets him fired by the First Order. It’s a pretty significant exchange, but it’s very unlikely you’ll even recognize Craig’s voice as he calls Rey “scavenger scum.”
