If School House Rock, Tumblr, and 1968’s Yellow Submarine reproduced, the result would be something like Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings’ video for “8 Days of Hanukkah.” The song, off October’s It’s a Holiday Soul Party, fuses the legendary singer’s powerhouse vocals with educational Hanukkah-themed lyrics like, “Day one: time to light a candle for those Maccabees whose oil did burn and burn.” Jones even incorporates melodies and lyrics from the beloved “Dreidel Song.”
Adam Sandler’s famous ditty is hard to dethrone, but “8 Days of Hanukkah” is beautifully performed and educational. Also, it has a dancing dreidel.
