Admit it: You probably shouldn’t watch the new Force Awakens trailer (technically a 60-second TV spot), and you definitely shouldn’t let it raise your expectations to levels that are impossible to meet, but you probably will anyway. If you’re like me, you’ll probably immediately watch it again.
The good news, if you’re worried about having too much of the movie spoiled for you in advance, is that this Abrams production continues to be characteristically restrained in how much it’s revealing. There are a few seconds of new footage here and there (what is that stormtrooper weapon that holds off Finn’s lightsaber?), but most of this we’ve seen before. The biggest reveal, for fans of a certain Mon Calamari character, is a brief glimpse of what appears to be Admiral Ackbar, standing in a war room with Princess General Leia before what is presumably another final battle. I’m just glad there will be someone there to declare whether it or is not a trap, but in the meantime I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
