The Pfeffermans Are More Dysfunctional Than Ever in This Teaser for Transparent’s New Season

Transparent, Jill Soloway’s critically acclaimed series about a trans woman who comes out to her family in midlife, will return to streaming devices on Dec. 11, and Amazon has released a first look at Season 2. The teaser trailer is short on action but chock full of important clues about what has become of the Pfeffermans since the end of Season 1. In this scene, older sister Sarah (Amy Landecker) is apparently marrying her girlfriend Tammy (Melora Hardin), and the whole family is present for the wedding photos. Crucially, Josh (Jay Duplass) and Rabbi Raquel (the wonderful Kathryn Hahn), whose relationship was in question at the end of Season 1, appear to be back together and accompanied by Josh’s recently discovered biological son Colton (Alex MacNicoll). Tammy’s former stepdaughter Bianca (Kiersey Clemons), one of the only nonwhite major characters of Season 1, is also still on the scene.

And, unsurprisingly, the Pfeffermans are still hopelessly self-centered, with Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) obsessing over whether she looks better with her chin up or down. Soloway’s knack for orchestrating amusingly chaotic group scenes is on full display here, and Amazon’s decision to release Season 2 smack dab in the middle of the holiday seasons seems like a stroke of genius—after all, no matter how dysfunctional your family can seem during the holidays, they probably don’t compare to the Pfefferman clan.
