Though Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing was released 26 years ago, the racial tension that simmers beneath its narrative persists today. What has changed is the Bed-Stuy neighborhood the movie celebrates, and Jimmy Kimmel’s Do the Right Thing 2: Do the White Thing is a worthy skewering of the new tweed-clad gentrifiers on the block.
Appropriately, some of the Girls cast is involved, along with Zooey Deschanel, Jay Duplass, and Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek. But the real delight is the return of Rosie Perez, here to fight Billy Crudup’s artisanal ice cubes, and Kimmel as Sal, who must resist the gluten-free, quinoa-craving customers that swamp his pizzeria.
