SNL Skewered American Gun Culture With This Great, Darkly Comic Ad

Amy Schumer’s SNL debut was a spry, polished affair, largely because it centered the same qualities that make her show great: irreverent skits, goofy impressions, terrific stand up. Then there’s her biting satire, which came via this faux-PSA that posits a not-so-distant future (or terrifying present) in which gun culture is as integral to the human condition as “love, family, connection, and a sense of purpose.”

The ad is particularly ominous after a week that saw school shootings in Oregon, Arizona, and Texas, and there’s an uneasy hilarity to watching couples spoon with a pistol or fire off a few rounds in the name of love. The tagline? “Guns: We’re here to stay.”
