On Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, John Oliver set his sights on Europe’s refugee crisis, in particular the baffling logic that some countries have used to justify barring refugees from settling there. He calls out countries like Slovakia, which has claimed that it can only allow Christian refugees in because the country “hasn’t got any mosques.” There’s also the camerawoman who was filmed kicking a young girl, and of course some terrorism-centric fearmongering from Fox News.
Above all, Oliver balks at the notion that the migrants are being branded as lazy by xenophobic governments. “I’m a lazy migrant!” Oliver said. “I left a country by airplane, and the only things I was escaping were fog, public indifference, and an almost certain future as the Turtle of Prince Harry’s entourage.”
