Tracy Morgan made a triumphant return to the stage at the Emmys Sunday night, making a surprise appearance to announce this year’s winner of Outstanding Drama Series. Just last year, a car accident took his friend James McNair’s life and left Morgan in a coma, but Morgan previously promised he would be back to make us laugh soon enough. Morgan should make us laugh plenty when he hosts Saturday Night Live on Oct. 17—but he also managed to squeeze a laugh or two into his speech, quipping that when he regained consciousness, “I was just ecstatic to learn I wasn’t the one who messed up.”
