There are few movie moments as bonkers as the tea party in Alice’s Wonderland, which sees Alice stumble upon a mad hatter, a mad hare, and a rather rude conversation comprised of circular word games and non sequitur riddles. It’s tough to make the scene any loonier, but Gene Kogan, who’s rendered the party in the style of 17 famous artists, just might have succeeded.
Kogan’s video displays the original scene, a selected artist’s canvas, and the scene as filtered through the artist’s aesthetic, and flitting from Picasso to Van Gogh to Basquiat to O’Keefe is a decidedly trippy experience. Enjoy.
