Sam Smith put his impressive pipes to seductive use in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, where he and Disclosure joined together for a soulful, danceable rendition of Drake’s forlorn “Hotline Bling.” This is just the latest installment in a growing Smith/Disclosure collaborative oeuvre, which also includes 2012’s “Latch” and this year’s “Omen.”
The cover’s chill vibe and house-inspired sound are very “Omen”-esque, but this collaboration is more stripped down, allowing Smith’s delicate vocal performance to shine over Disclosure’s typically catchy instrumentals. Listening to this cover, it’s hard not to agree with one YouTube commenter, who asked, “Can they just make a whole album together already”?
