Hasta la vista, Donald Trump: Celebrity Apprentice has a new host for 2016, and it’s Arnold Schwarzenegger. Trump, of course, has bowed out as host due to his bid to “make America great again.” And in some ways, Schwarzenegger is a natural fit for the gig.
Congrats to my friend @Schwarzenegger who is doing next season’s Celebrity Apprentice. He'll be great & will raise lots of $ for charity.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 14, 2015
To all my fans, sorry I couldn’t do The Apprentice any longer—but equal time (presidential run) prohibits me from doing so. Love!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 14, 2015
There is, of course, more to Schwarzenegger than his roles in Terminator and Conan the Barbarian and grossing billions worldwide—he served two terms as California’s governor, and has invested in both real estate and sports franchises. He also has been known to talk with a near-Trumpian bluntness, as in this interview with Jay Leno, in which, in response to a jab about his haircut, Schwarzenegger quipped, “That was for a movie called Ten, and if you don't like that haircut, you should see my bikini wax. Unbelievable.” As anyone who’s seen his movies can attest, he’s quite funny. Even without a script, he has been known to crack wise about topics ranging from his heart surgery to his candidacy for governor to his accent.
And perhaps most importantly, he’s no stranger to the phrase “You’re fired!”
