Watch Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift Open the VMAs Together to Prove Their “Beef” Is Really Over

In an entertaining, more-than-a-little-awkward resolution to their recent, much-discussed Twitter feud, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj opened Sunday’s Video Music Awards by uniting on stage for a medley performance. Minaj began the show with flair, belting hits like “The Night is Still Young” while engaging in lively choreography that celebrated her Trinidadian roots.

About midway through the set, Swift emerged from the back of the stage, and the two stars put their bad blood behind them by—what else?—singing “Bad Blood.” The whole affair seemed like a pretty pat, manufactured reconciliation. Or was their original beef a promo for this MTV performance?
