Last week, YouTube user Muted Vocal rendered iconic horror themes in a major key, which made them suddenly, dorkily upbeat. Now, Muted Vocal has taken some of our most boisterous theme songs to darker places.
Some of the songs, like the Indiana Jones theme, don’t sound all that different from the original. But others are fully creepified. Jurassic Park’s soaring melody is newly depressive. The Great Escape becomes a jaunty romp that sounds like the backdrop to a silent comedy about Nazi Germany. But the crowning jewel of the collection is Chariots of Fire’s tune, which sounds downright murderous.
