Hear Ryan Adams’ Brooding Takes on Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood”

Noted Swiftie Ryan Adams is still hard at work recording his cover album of Taylor Swift’s quintuple-platinum 1989. The singer-songwriter already got to “Welcome to New York,” “Out of the Woods,” and “All You Had to Do Was Stay,” and over the weekend, Adams recorded “Shake It Off” and “I Wish You Would.” While there’s no preview of the latter yet, Adams shared a couple previews of “Shake It Off,” with the singer-songwriter slowing down its peppy, “Hey Mickey”-style beat for a brooding rendition that almost sounds fit for an upcoming season of True Detective:

Then he moved on to his “fav section” of the album, starting with “Bad Blood.” Adams’ “Heartbreaker-sounding” rendition transforms Swift’s taunting track into an almost rueful ballad, which you can preview below.
