It’s Official: The Sixth Season of Community Was Its Last

The end of an era.

For the first time in years, Community is no longer in limbo—Joel McHale has confirmed that Season 6, which aired on Yahoo earlier this year, was its last. While Yahoo did want more seasons, the actor said in an interview with Metro Weekly,

All of our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception—their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.

Season 6 was a surprisingly strong one, even with the change in format (a new network and longer episodes) and loss of several of its key cast members—so fans can be comforted by the fact that the show ended on a high note. But they shouldn’t rule out the possibility that the long-running dream of #SixSeasonsandaMovie could eventually become a reality, either—both McHale and creator Dan Harmon certainly seem open to it.
