Carly Rae Jepsen’s New Single Is More Restrained Than “I Really Like You,” Just as Catchy

“Warm Blood,” the new single from Carly Rae Jepsen’s third studio album, Emotion, seems designed to get your pulse racing along with it. While “I Really Like You” was the bubblegum-pop spiritual successor to “Call Me Maybe,” Jepsen’s latest single is a breathier, more slow-burning synth track co-written by Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend. It’s still every bit as catchy.

The track fits right in with others on the album, including “All That” and “Run Away With Me,” in which Jepsen seems to be channeling an ’80s Madonna vibe. Emotion may be less sugary than Kiss, the album that birthed “Call Me Maybe,” but so far it has proven just as appealing. It has already been out in Japan since June and will finally be released in the U.S. on Aug. 21.
