The Shark’s Fin on India’s Meru Peak is one of the world’s most perilous climbs. Sundance Audience Award–winning documentary Meru is about the three daredevils who became the first to successfully scale it. Renowned climbers Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturk began their journey in 2008. According to the trailer’s official synopsis, they made it within 100 meters of the summit, but fell short, just like every other attempt that had come before them. But a couple years later, they tried again—with gloriously different results. Meru traces that snowy, terrifying, amazing journey. The movie hits theaters on Aug. 14.
