It was perhaps inevitable that Justin Bieber would gyrate his way to Lip Sync Battle, and Thursday night he made his big debut. Round one got off to a rocky start: Bieber pouted and caressed himself all the way through Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” while NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders’ rendition of “Play That Funky Music” revolved largely around reminding us that Justin Bieber is, in fact, a white boy. No one had forgotten.
Luckily, both performers rallied for round two, with Sanders prancing around in a Madonna wig and tutu for “Like a Virgin” and Bieber getting creative with Ozzy Osbourne glasses and a packet of strawberry jam. Sanders clinched the victory, but just barely—Bieber might have won the day if he’d lip-synched literally any other Fergie song. Or lost the terrible hat.
