Kate Winslet seems determined to make over an entire town in the new trailer for The Dressmaker, an adaptation of the novel by Rosalie Ham that looks like The Devil Wears Prada meets Australia,. The comedy-drama costars Judy Davis, Hugo Weaving, and a frequently shirtless Liam Hemsworth.
Though the trailer does The Dressmaker no favors (between “now she’s back … in style” and “gossip and scandal … are back in fashion,” maybe they should have settled on just one couture-related pun), it’s worth watching if only to see Winslet decked out in her femme-fatale best against the stark outback scenery. In an age where male costars are often decades older than their female love interests, it’s also refreshing to see Winslet, who is 39, paired with 25-year-old Hemsworth for a change.
