Here Is the Mashup of Newsies and “Uptown Funk!” We Didn’t Know We Needed

It’s rare to watch a mashup of two cultural products and think, “Oh dear, that was nowhere near long enough.” Yet that’s exactly what went through my mind after watching this marvelous, necessary video combining the choreography of the 1992 cult classic Newsies with the “hot-damned funky groove” of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk!” Though I’d never expect the musical and the song to fit together so perfectly, they do have a few things in common, now that I think about it: a tight squad, retro style, and cocky defiance at their core. Would-be YouTube artists, take this as a sign: If you have a great mashup idea, now is the time to seize the day.
