The Empire State Building and the Grateful Dead Teamed Up for an Epic Farewell Jam

As the Grateful Dead played one of their last shows in Chicago on Independence Day, they had an unlikely accompanist 800 miles away: The Empire State Building. When the legendary rock band ended their July 4 performance with the very appropriate “U.S. Blues,” the New York City skyscraper pitched in with a synchronized light show, featuring a patriotic color scheme with Grateful Dead imagery, which was broadcast live to the concert at Soldier Field.

Best addition to the Grateful Dead: Trey Anastasio or this skyscraper?
