Watch the Trailer for Creed, the First Rocky Sequel Without Rocky in the Title

Nine years after reprising his most iconic character for Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone returns for the seventh installment of the Rocky franchise, Creed. The latest film stars Michael B. Jordan, rejoining Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler to play the son of Rocky’s onetime rival, Apollo Creed, who died dramatically in the Italian Stallion’s arms in Rocky IV.

Though Stallone is still a major player, the new trailer puts the emphasis on Jordan’s character, who, like his father, has donned a pair of boxing gloves and a pair of red, white, and blue trunks. Creed will be the first entry in the franchise in which Rocky is not the film’s title character, though not the first with him acting as a mentor, which he did in Rocky V.
