Donald Trump’s presidential announcement Tuesday was a joke in itself to many, but professional Trump troll Stephen Colbert figured there’s always a little room to riff. The ascendant Late Show host, sporting his best combover, dropped his voice to blowhard pitch and issued a six-minute impersonation—after being wheeled up to the lectern.
The video is one of the first sketches we’ve seen since Colbert left the Colbert Report, and it gives us a glimpse of what his Late Show might look like. Admittedly, spending six minutes impersonating one of one of the nation’s most imitated men isn’t the most original idea, but it’s a sign that we can expect more of the political satire we came to know and love on the Colbert Report. We’ll have to wait to find out whether all four American flags will still be in the background when Late Show premieres Sept. 8.
